Skoll Awardee

Jenny Bowen is the founder and CEO of Half the Sky Foundation, which has been partnering with the Chinese government since 1998 in order to better the lives of orphaned and abandoned children living in state-run welfare institutions. Half the Sky's approach has become China's national standard for care of institutionalized children. A former screenwriter and independent filmmaker, she is a 2008 recipient of the Skoll Award. Her memoir, Wish You Happy Forever: What China’s Orphans Taught Me About Moving Mountains, was published by Harper Collins in 2014, and was recently released in paperback. This year, Half the Sky launches OneSky, a new global initiative dedicated to unlocking the potential of the world's most vulnerable children. OneSky's first project is focused on transforming the lives and futures of 23 million very young children who are left behind in China's rural villages when their parents migrate away to pursue the "Chinese Dream."
