Jorge Rubio is a founding member of the Citi’s Global Inclusive Finance Group based in London, UK, which was created in 2005 to spearhead Citi’s commercial efforts to support financial inclusion around the world. He participated in the development of Citi´s commercial strategy to engage the microfinance sector across Citi´s businesses in over 40 countries. Jorge also lead the team that structured award winning microfinance transactions in the capital markets , including the first investment grade local bond for a microfinance institution and a scalable micro insurance program in Mexico selling over 1 million micro insurance policies in the first year (2006 and 2007 IFC/Financial Times Sustainable Deal and Bankers of the Year Award, respectively). In 2014, he participated on the structuring and distribution of the Inter-American Development Bank’s first social theme bond to fund education, youth development and employment opportunities for vulnerable communities in Latin America. His work around financial inclusion spans sustainable value chain development for multinational companies and digital financial services reaching the unbanked and underserved, where he helped design a crowdsourcing and acceleration platform to engage the global community of developers and start-ups to create the new generation of digital financial services that can significantly contribute to financial inclusion around the world.
In 2009 Jorge was invited as an Associate to the David Rockefeller Centre for Latin-American Studies at Harvard University.
