From self-building to custom-splitting

Back to schedule

Session Description

The session is designed to engage with those with space to spare that they would be happy to share, and those who are thinking of building their own dwelling. There are estimated to be several million households falling into one of these categories. Some of the former will be occupying only part of their house but heating most of it. Some of those hoping to self or custom build might already be on the statutory registers held by local authorities acquiring a right to be offered a serviced plot within three years, but who could be attracted to the possibility of acquiring part of and re-configuring an existing house. This could be through purchase, renting or rent-to-buy. The implementation could be through the sharing of skills and resources and could result in more, energy efficient, more fully occupied and affordable houses.
