Biography

Athelia is Director of Development at Ariadne Labs. Ariadne Labs is a joint center for health systems innovation at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Founded in 2012 by Dr. Atul Gawande, Ariadne began with the premise that it is possible to save lives and reduce suffering at large scale through systems innovation -- simple solutions for better care at some of the most critical moments in people's lives. Starting with surgery, Ariadne Labs has since spread their model of innovation to address failures that occur in childbirth, serious illness and primary health care.


Athelia has deep experience connecting engaged, activist philanthropists and family foundations with entrepreneurial leaders and institutions dedicated to effective social change. She started her career in the non-profit space as a community and political organizer in reproductive health and quickly realized the power of strong philanthropic partnerships. At MIT, Boston Children’s Hospital and Pathfinder International, Athelia has built successful sustainable fundraising programs for higher education, healthcare and global health organizations to catalyze social innovation. At Ariadne Labs, she works closely with Executive Director Dr. Atul Gawande, senior leadership, faculty, and colleagues to connect philanthropic individuals and institutions to Ariadne Labs’ ideas, innovators and innovations.
