Patrick Hayes

Chief Development OfficerWater For People

Biography

After building a successful 20+ year career in resource development, Patrick left behind everything he owned to embark on an open-ended around-the-world journey. His only goal was to be a direct part of the kind of work for which he'd been raising resources for more than two decades. This path ultimately immersed him in three consecutive Skoll awardee organizations. Beginning with a Kiva Fellowship, and then extending his engagement with Camfed (Campaign for Female Education), Patrick finally landed at Water For People as its Chief Development Officer. His work and travels have revealed countless opportunities to achieve lasting progress in developing communities, introducing local heroes and champions along the way -- from girls’ education in sub-Sahara Africa and micro-enterprise in Southeast Asia, to safe water in Latin America and sanitation access in India.

Though his career has been built around successes in resource development, Patrick's true passion is exploring the world, peeling back its layers, and sharing its stories. He holds an undergraduate degree in journalism, and a master’s degree in environmental policy and management.
