Tom Bui

Biography

Tom has been a Government of Canada executive since 2006. As Director of Prosperity and Development with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Tom leads policy advice in deepening and broadening engagement with the private sector as partners in development. Previously, he was responsible for international protection and horizontal policy at Citizenship and Immigration Canada and regional development banks at the Canadian International Development Agency.

Between 1997 and 2006, Tom occupied many positions with Finance Canada, including senior economist and advisor to the Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean at the World Bank Group. He helped create the Canadian Debt Initiative as Canada’s contribution to the abolition of Third World Debt, and served as Canada’s G-7 expert on IMF issues, including quota reform.

Tom has an MA in Economics and BBA in Economics and Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. He is a CFA charterholder.
