About the Organization

Ceres is a coalition of investment funds, environmental organizations, and public interest groups. Ceres creates the tools to weave environmental and social concerns into the fabric of global capital markets, introduces the concept of climate risk to world business leaders, and mobilizes a network of investors to tackle the climate crisis.

In modern corporate culture, sustainability is often an afterthought. Global climate is irreparably harmed by carbon pollution, with disastrous consequences.

Ambition for Change

Capital market practices incorporate long-term environmental and social risks instead of merely relying on short-term returns as a measure of economic health.

Path to Scale

Innovation, thought leadership, building influential networks by engaging with large institutional investors and working with Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders, Ceres amplifies its message and influence.

Impact & Accomplishments

Ceres’ Investor Network in Climate Risk and Sustainability continues to grow in size and influence. As of 2018, this network comprises 160 institutional investors, collectively managing more than $25 trillion in assets, which is larger than the U.S. economy. In 2018, Ceres’ helped mobilization investors to influence the oil and gas industry, contributing to significant steps, such as three major oil and gas companies, Exxon, Chevron, and Occidental, setting greenhouse gas reduction goals for the first time. Ceres’ mobilization of the private sector in support of climate policy at the state level has contributed to significant wins, such as in California in 2017 with the extension of its cap and trade program through 2030, and in 2018 with the passage of SB100, which sets the state on the path to 100 percent renewable energy by 2045. Accelerating the enabling environment around sustainability, in September 2018, Ceres helped launch the new Global Green Bond Partnership backed by the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, Amundi, and other climate finance and sustainability groups, aimed at supporting and assisting sub-national and corporate green bond issuance.
