Leave No One Behind: Serving Justice Through Investments in Access to Clean Energy

Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Session Description

Access to safe, clean, and affordable energy brings enormous benefits to communities in education, health, development, and human rights. Today, we have an unprecedented opportunity to achieve energy access for all of the world’s population and to dramatically accelerate the fight against energy poverty. Led by intrepid social entrepreneurs what is often considered the ‘last mile’ of development – the vulnerable, the isolated, and the poorest – can be “first” with new business models, new financing, and new technology. Please join Ashden and Shine in an Investors Roundtable Discussion to celebrate and learn from Harish Hande of SELCO, Nico Tyabji of Sunfunder, TBC of SteamaCo and Lesley Marincola of Angaza and explore how you can join the movement towards a clean energy economy that leaves no one behind. With a video welcome from Mary Robinson and additional invited representatives of the IKEA Foundation.

Lunch will be served.

Ashden’s world-renowned Awards scheme recognises and rewards the most innovative sustainable energy pioneers in the UK and developing world. Through a range of programmes it supports winners to reach their full potential and share best practice.

Shine is a global campaign dedicated to ending energy poverty and unlocking new opportunities for billions of people. Shine partners from the faith, development, and philanthropic sectors are mobilizing new forms of capital, scaling solutions, and generating momentum to achieve universal access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy by 2030 – a Sustainable Development Goal.
