Andy Thornton

Biography

Andy is a Director of Smallholder Solutions who design and execute projects that integrate smallholders into commercial value chains and share the value created. This can be done through creating stand-alone businesses that work exclusively with smallholders, or incorporating them within established commercial businesses looking to expand. Prior to this he was Deputy CEO of a for-profit social enterprise that developed a new, scalable business model for the palm oil sector in West Africa centred on smallholders. He also spent 9 years at AfriKids, a child rights organisation that operates in northern Ghana; here he was a Director focussed on developing and running Ghanaian social projects and social business. Andy holds a BA in International Studies and Political Science from the University of Birmingham and an MBA from the University of Oxford where he studied as a Skoll Scholar.
