Head of Editorial Partnerships + Special Projects, BBC World Service Group
As Head of Editorial Partnerships & Special Projects at the BBC World Service Group, Emily has set up and directs a number of high impact projects. These include the BBC Komla Dumor Award for African Journalists, the Chevening Partnership bringing 12 high calibre global journalists to the BBC for 4 months funded by the UK foreign office, and pioneering the Solutions-Focused Journalism project across BBC News, kick-starting a culture change inside the organisation. This has been achieved via running a solutions-focused multiplatform season, SoICanBreathe -looking at ways to cut air pollution – engaging all BBC News key outlets, from the Six and Ten O Clock bulletins to all 29 World Service languages and English regions. She has also delivered workshops from Nairobi to Delhi to Birmingham, and written tool kits and blogs. Emily is now working on upcoming pan BBC News solutions-focused season, Crossing Divides.
Emily previously served as an award-winning broadcaster and editor at the BBC. She founded and edited The Forum, the flagship weekly ideas discussion show, ran the World Service Arts and Religion departments, was a founding senior journalist for The World, and a produce and reporter for the African Service, in all reporting and producing for the BBC across five continents. Emily has also been a Visiting Fellow at Said Business School, and has been a Senior Advisor to the Skoll Foundation, creating partnerships to source more diverse Social Entrepreneur awardees.
Emily has written for a number of publications including The Guardian, Telegraph, Economist and the Financial Times, and chairs panels and hosts key note interviews at global conferences and events including the Skoll World Forum, Global Impact Investment Conference in Amsterdam, Ashoka UK’s 10th birthday event and the Sankalp Forum in Mumbai. Emily is also a BBC Executive Coach, and on the board of The HH Wingate grant-giving Foundation.
