James Nardella

Principal, Skoll Foundation

Biography

Motivated by a passion for building resilient organizations and leaders, James Nardella serves as a Principal on the Portfolio & Investments Team at the Skoll Foundation. He identifies organizations with the potential to drive large scale social change, screens these organizations for the Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, leads the Foundation’s relationship with a portfolio of current Skoll Awardees, and contributes thought leadership to the field of social entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining Skoll, James led the Lwala Community Alliance, a Kenyan health and development organization affiliated with Vanderbilt University. Lwala targets a rural population with acute needs and is best known for its community approach to increasing child survival, improving access to primary healthcare, and increasing school completion for girls. James oversaw the expansion of programs to provide 20,000 people with healthcare, 6,000 students with after-school programming, and 180 Kenyans with meaningful employment.

James holds a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts from Boston University and a M.Ed. in International Education Policy and Leadership from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. James is married to Jena Lee Nardella, the co-founder of Blood:Water Mission and the author of One Thousand Wells. The Nardellas met through their mutual work in Africa and have two young children. James enjoys writing and speaking and has contributed content for One, Impatient Optimists, Clinton Global Initiative, Girls Globe, and The Mother and Child Project.
