Biography

James Platts is a strategy advisor in the office of the Chief Strategy Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He currently focuses on a range of projects in global health and development, in particular pandemic disease preparedness and global health security. He has worked at the Gates Foundation in several roles since 2010 and worked previously at the Boston Consulting Group and the National Economic Council at the White House. He holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Harvard and an MBA and a master’s in public health from UC Berkeley. He is a member of the board of directors of the Snow Leopard Trust, which aims to protect the endangered snow leopard through community-based conservation projects and improved scientific research.
