“Being a bystander to suffering is not an option,” notes Jim Greenbaum, an ethical vegan who left the business world in 1999 at 41 years of age to found and work full time at The Greenbaum Foundation. With annual grant making in the 3 to 5 million-dollar range, areas for funding include, among others, Human Rights, Health, Human Trafficking, Philanthropy, and Animal Rights and Protection with a focus on Factory Farming. Jim is passionate about bringing business efficiency and selfless, common sense approaches to the humanitarian world.
Jim’s focus is on innovative projects working to bring about the end of suffering (human and non-human) in areas of the highest need where mainstream organizations are not heavily involved and where he believes he can have the most impact. Jim assists organizations with guidance, networking and funding. He has also committed to contributing in excess of 85% of his wealth to charitable projects during his lifetime, and the remainder soon thereafter. Jim is a board member of Tostan, and an Executive Producer of the documentaries "Not My Life," "Cowspiracy" and "What the Health." Jim follows an Effective Altruistic approach for his philanthropy.
