Founder and CEO, ALearn
Kathryn Hanson, Ph.D. is Founder and CEO of ALearn. ALearn’s mission is to get more underserved students of color on the path to college through intensive math, college readiness and growth mindset programs. ALearn has served over 12,000 students in its first 10 years, in a variety of high school and college programs in the summer and year-round. As of January 2018, ALearn is in the process of merging with Silicon Valley Education Foundation, to create the largest education program and advocacy non-profit in the Bay Area.
Before ALearn, she was President of The Hanson Group, a strategy and marketing consulting firm for high technology and Internet companies. Her clients included the following technology companies: Hewlett Packard, Sun, Silicon Graphics, National Semiconductor and many Internet and software companies.
She was a founder of eMentoring, an elearning company which merged into Pensare; and a co-founder of Satmetrix, a Customer Satisfaction Internet Software company. She started her tech career working for Hewlett Packard. Hanson has served on many Boards, for public, private and non-profit institutions. She currently serves on the Board of Trident, an online university serving the military, as well as the ALearn Board. She has a BA in English with Distinction from Stanford University, an MA and a Ph.D. in English from University of Chicago, and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School. Kathryn has been married to Kirk O. Hanson for 47 years, and they have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
