Mariano is a forest engineer with large experience on working with forest carbon projects and sustainable rural development over the last ten years. Mariano founded the NGO Idesam in 2005, and ever since he has been involved in many projects and initiatives related to REDD+, forest conservation and sustainable farming/production, providing consultancy and support to institutions like the World Bank/FCPF/BioCF, Government of Amazonas State, AVINA, Fundação Amazonas Sustentável (FAS), Katoomba Group, Forest Trends, Voluntary Carbon Standards Association, (VCS), TNC, Carbon Decisions International (CDI), and others.
