Co-founder, Partners In Health

Biography

Ophelia Dahl has been advocating for the health and rights of the poor for nearly 30 years. In 1987, Dahl co-founded Partners In Health, a Boston-based non-profit. Dahl has served as Chair of PIH’s Board since 2000 and as Executive Director from 2001-2015. In partnership with an incredible collection of colleagues, PIH has grown to fulfill and expand upon its mission: to effect a preferential health care option for the poor in concert with community-based organizations and in partnership with local governments and Ministries of Health. PIH has forged groundbreaking successes in treating the diseases of the poor and in promoting health and human rights in areas ravaged by political conflict, poverty, and international neglect. PIH projects and partnerships now span Rwanda, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Navajo Nation, Lesotho, Malawi, Liberia, and Sierra Leone where nearly 15,000 worldwide colleagues work within and beyond more than 60 hospitals and health centers. Dahl is a graduate of Wellesley College and is Chairman of Dahl & Dahl LLP, which manages the literary estate of her late father, the writer, Roald Dahl. She serves as Vice President on the Board of Roald Dahl’s Museum and Story Centre.
