Ryan Van Lenning

Biography

As former Communications Coordinator, Ryan managed Skoll's day-to-day social media engagement, lifting up the impactful work of Skoll's many partners, monitors and curating media and emerging news trends, and supporting the Public Engagement, Communications, and Creative Services team.

Prior to joining the Skoll Foundation, Ryan worked with many nonprofits working on issues ranging from clean energy and food justice to affordable housing, as an organizer, writer, and communications consultant. He was Communications Coordinator at Global Footprint Network, where he was lead coordinator of the Earth Overshoot Day communications campaign.

Holding degrees in Philosophy (B.A.—Indiana University) and Comparative Religion (M.A.—Miami University of Ohio), he taught courses in Philosophy, History of Religions, Environmental Ethics, and Peace and Violence in the Humanities Department at a community college in Ohio prior to moving to California.

One of his guiding mottos is people care, earth care, fair share. In his spare time, you can usually find him spending time with trees and creeks, exploring trails, enjoying live music, or active in the local social change scene in Oakland.
