Scott McMeekin

CEOJUMP Math

Biography

Scott McMeekin has been Chief Executive Officer of JUMP Math since 2010. His experience spans large and small organizations, including: Monitor Company, where he assisted Fortune 1000 companies in strategy development; as an executive in early-stage firms; and managing large, multi-year training simulator projects at CAE Electronics.

Scott provided pro-bono assistance to JUMP, prior to taking on the role of CEO. He was drawn to JUMP Math by its ethos of ability – the notion that everyone, of every race, ethnicity and gender, can achieve success in math and in life. This ethos is critical to bridging divides, because success begins with belief and because education is virtually the only remaining reliable means of social mobility. Moreover, recent evidence suggests that early math skills may be an even better predictor of long term academic success than early literacy skills. Students and their teachers must believe that success is possible, or the odds are stacked against them. JUMP Math programs are designed to put students and teachers on the road to success and keep them there.

The economic benefits of educational success are clear, but the non-economic benefits are equally important. Democracies depend on thoughtful voters who can cut through competing claims and promises to identify the best available choices for the societies in which they live. Quantitative reasoning skills developed in an environment founded on an ethos of ability (and possibility) can make for better voters.
