Sriram Shamasunder is the co-founder of HEAL(Health Equity Action Leadership) Initiative and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. HEAL disrupts the several billion dollar physician head hunter market in poor communities by placing high quality, long term physicians in those spots and cross subsidizes that earned revenue to build local workforce capacity among Navajo health professionals, as well as in several countries internationally.
Sri was named Northern California Young Physician of the Year in 2010. He is a Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation Social Entrepreneur, a Fulbright-Nehru Scholar, and a TEDx Berkeley 2016 speaker.
Dr. Shamasunder is a graduate of UC Berkeley, received his medical degree from New York Medical College, completed his Internal Medicine residency at Harbor UCLA, and holds a DTM&H(Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene) He is also a published poet.
