Stories That Drive Transformational Social Change Come to the Clinton Global Initiative

September 2, 2022

By Jess Fleuti - Skoll Foundation, By Lindsey Platt Ojok - Skoll Foundation

The Skoll Foundation has always held that hopeful human-centered storytelling that elevates the voices of social innovators—and expands what people think is possible—helps fuel transformational social change. At the 2022 Clinton Global Initiative, the Skoll Foundation will co-host the CGI Story Studio, taking place during U.N. General Assembly week in New York. CGI convenes, connects, and catalyzes leaders in government, business, philanthropy, grassroots organizations, media, and academia to commit to take action.

As part of the broader event, Story Studio seeks to harness the power of storytelling to ignite social change by curating a unique set of inspirational stories from artists, trailblazers, barrier-breakers, innovators, and those on the frontlines of our toughest collective challenges. From pandemic response to climate change and economic inequality, the Story Studio will focus on the human stories at the center of the solutions.

The Skoll Foundation is pleased to curate a segment of the four-hour Story Studio focused on TRUST. Trust is the basis of connection; it is the speed of impact; and it is one of our most basic and increasingly precious human needs. Trust builds friendships, families, communities, institutions, and societies. It is the connective tissue between them. Its absence—or fracture—can change everything. We will welcome four storytellers who have tapped into the power of trust to break down barriers, cultivate transformation, and create new pathways toward connection and impact.

Featured speakers will include Lou Louis Koboji, Founder & Director, Kajo Keji Health Training Institute from Uganda; Alessandra Orofino, Executive Director, NOSSAS from Brazil; Rodney Foxworth, CEO, Common Future from the U.S., and Rahul Jain, filmmaker, Invisible Demons from India. Through story and connection, we will be able to not only chart a path forward on complex issues but also become a model of collective, and community-driven, action in an increasingly divided world.
