African stories, from African filmmakers: Solutions Inside Out Season One

November 8, 2023

By Sky Dylan-Robbins - The Video Consortium, By Debra Aroko - The Video Consortium

We’re thrilled to release the first season of Solutions Inside Out, an inspiring short documentary series about social innovators catalyzing positive change across Africa.

These films are an outcome of the Solutions Storytelling Project—a collaborative initiative from the Video Consortium with support from the Skoll Foundation—that connects regional filmmakers and social innovators to create solutions-focused, short documentaries about extraordinary social change.

What’s so different about the Solutions Storytelling Project? It uniquely puts power back into the hands of storytellers and those closest to the issues we need to solve in places systemically underrepresented in film. Over the past year, SSP Africa brought together changemakers and filmmakers, transcending borders and cultures, to capture vibrant, visual stories of their communities.

Beyond the stories, we’ve seen a precious community blossom. As these nineteen short films enter the world, we can’t wait to see the impact they make—for the organizations they feature, the filmmakers who produced them, and all lives that are touched by the important work they capture.

As we celebrate the release of this first season of Solutions Inside Out, we’re looking ahead to the future. We’re excited to announce that in the coming year, Solutions Storytelling Project is shifting focus to Latin America for season two, where we’re already searching for new stories and filmmakers to join our growing community. Applications for SSP LatAm are now open.

It’s time we give storytellers the tools, connections, and community that they need to craft their own stories. Follow SSP’s journey—and the ongoing impact these films make—by subscribing to Skoll here and the Video Consortium here. New Solutions Inside Out episodes are premiering through February, 2024!
