Latin American Stories, from Latin American Filmmakers: Solutions Inside Out, Season Two

What happens when skilled visual storytellers and inspiring nonprofits from the same regions come together to document positive change in their communities? As an ongoing collaboration between the Video Consortium and the Skoll Foundation via the the Solutions Storytelling Project (SSP) shows, the result is a slate of compelling cinematic documentaries that authentically capture local solutions for global audiences—galvanizing even broader social transformation.

Solutions Storytelling Project—and its resulting short documentary series Solutions Inside Out—is an initiative focused on showcasing stories of change, told by filmmakers from the regions featured in each story. We’re thrilled to share Season Two of the project, which shares bold solutions from exceptional leaders across Latin America. To bring this inspiring documentary series to life, over the past year, 16 extraordinary filmmakers worked with 16 Skoll-supported trailblazing nonprofits to explore pressing topics in their shared regions—from climate change and Indigenous rights to women’s empowerment—through the lens of resilience, creativity, and community-driven solutions.

These stories are remarkable, but what makes this series so unique is who is telling them. All too often, the people most affected by challenges aren’t the ones behind the camera. At the heart of this project is a commitment to equipping those who are closest to the issues with tools and support so they can shape their own narratives. Doing so ensures that the stories the world sees are representative, deeply informed, and ripe for authentic action.

While crafting these films, SSP participants received mentorship from leading industry professionals, coaching and training to refine their craft, and other technical support. But beyond that, they fostered a sense of cross-border community: filmmakers and changemakers across Latin America had the opportunity to collaborate and build relationships as they advanced their shared goals of tackling some of the world’s most entrenched challenges.

In this way, the Solutions Storytelling Project is more than a platform for storytelling; it’s a bridge between art and action. The films reflect a tapestry of transformative efforts that inspire hope and demonstrate what is possible when creativity and collaboration intersect.
