Malala and Ziauddin Yousafzai: A Father and Daughter’s Ambition

October 11, 2015

“Ambition is what’s in your heart.”

Since the age of 10, Malala Yousafzai has campaigned for the rights of girls to receive an education. At the age of 15, she was shot by the Taliban while on her way home from school in northern Pakistan. Malala has since become a global advocate for the millions of girls who are denied a formal education. She started the Malala Fund to bring awareness to the social and economic impact of girls’ education and to empower girls to raise their voices and demand change. In 2014, the Skoll Foundation awarded her the Skoll Global Treasure Award for her incredible work.

During the 2014 Skoll World Forum, we asked Malala and her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, also an education activist and Malala Fund co-founder, what ambition means to them. Malala shared her own ambition and Ziauddin shared what he has learned from his daughter.
