16 Speakers Give Sneak Peeks to the Skoll World Forum

The Skoll World Forum is coming up very soon (in fact, most of the Skoll Foundation staff is heading to Oxford this week!) so here are some highlights from 16 new articles inspired by sessions at the 2015 Forum:

• Stuart Rolland, speaking on the April 17 panel, How Fast Can Small Grow? The Case for Solar Power, wrote about how innovative system design makes solar work. Rolland is the managing director of British Gas Business and shared an interesting case study from a borough in London which is reducing the area’s CO₂emissions by over 250 metric tons per year.
• Lucy Lake is speaking on the April 17 panel, Unleashing Girls’ Power, and wrote how to finance quality secondary education for girls at scale. Lake, the CEO of Camfed, focuses on capital—mobilizing “a social infrastructure to secure girls’ entitlement to education and, by so doing, unlocks the latent capital in their communities, which we then expand and match with additional resources.”
• Cecilia Flores-Oebanda is speaking on the April 16 panel, Down is Not Defeated, about how to overcome adversity. Flores-Oebanda, who is the founder of Visayan Forum Foundation, writes, “I gave birth in the mountains but had to be separated from my son. I saw my friends and colleagues brutally murdered while I was pregnant with my second child. My son, Kip, whose name means “captured”, spent his early childhood in prison. My daughter, who was also born in prison, is named Malaya, which means “freedom.”
