Biography
Gillian Caldwell is currently consultant specializing in strategic planning, organizational development and executive coaching for foundations, nonprofits and progressive companies. She was previously appointed by President Biden to serve as the Chief Climate Officer and Deputy Assistant Administrator at the US Agency for International Development (USAID) (2021-2024). She also served as CEO of Global Witness (2015-2019)(2014 Skoll Awardee), investigating natural resource extraction and related human rights abuses and advocating for policy change, the head of 1Sky (now 350.org) (2007-2010), advocating for climate change legislation in the US, and Executive Director of WITNESS (1998-2007)(2005 Skoll awardee), supporting human rights groups worldwide to integrate video and storytelling into their advocacy campaigns. She is an attorney & filmmaker & a recipient of numerous awards and honors for social entrepreneurship. She received her BA from Harvard and a J.D. from Georgetown.
