Overview

Weak institutions and unaccountable governments disrupt people’s lives, sow mistrust, and lead to inequality, poverty, civil unrest, and global instability.

The Skoll Foundation supports social innovations that promote effective governance, strengthen democratic institutions, and advance global security. The governance they seek puts people first, pursues accountability, and protects human rights for all.

Strengthening the Global Democracy Ecosystem

Keseb is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focused on building a global ecosystem of pro-democracy entrepreneurs, activists, funders, and scholars to advance inclusive democracies around the world.

Building Community-based Power

In 2020 and 2022, PushBlack ran the largest digital friends and family get out the vote effort for Black Americans. In 2022, PushBlack empowered its community to share more than 180 million personalized voting messages. This helped to generate between 664,000 to 2.6 million votes.

In 2021 Vote Run Lead launched RUN/51 to increase the number of women running for and serving in state legislatures. In 2022, Vote Run Lead helped prepare 363 women to run for office. In the general election, 171 Vote Run Lead alums were elected to office, representing a 68% win rate.

Advancing U.S. Pro-Democracy Policies and Practices

The Institute for Responsive Government has supported the implementation of pro-voter policies like automatic voter registration in more than 20 states. These policies help make elections equally accessible to all eligible voters. Fair Count deployed a data-driven approach to supporting a more complete 2020 Census, a more fair 2021 redistricting cycle, and a more representative electorate in 2022, 2024, and beyond.
