Biography
Majka Burhardt is Legado's Founder and Executive Director and has over two decades of experience leading social entrepreneurship ventures across Africa, Europe, South and North America. Majka's diverse background as a professional climber, author, and anthropologist has created her cross-sectoral leadership and ability to build teams to approach complex challenges with innovative solutions.
Legado is a women-led, global nonprofit that works alongside Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IP&LCs) in places important for biodiversity (Kenya, Mozambique, Peru, and growing) to ensure they have the tools, resources, and partnerships they need to design and implement solutions of their choosing that benefit both their communities and landscapes—an outcome they call Thriving Futures.
Majka has a BA from Princeton University, a MFA from Warren Wilson, and is a Mulago Henry Arnhold Fellow. Her newest book is More: Life on the Edge of Adventure and Motherhood.
