Biography
Anna V. Smith is an associate editor for High Country News magazine, which covers the people, places, and non-humans of the Western U.S. She writes and edits stories on tribal sovereignty, Indigenous land rights and repatriation, and environmental justice for the Indigenous Affairs Desk from Oregon. She’s won multiple awards over the years from the Indigenous Journalists Association, including Best Coverage of Indigenous Communities. She has also collaborated with outlets like ProPublica and Grist, and freelanced for publications like Slate, Audubon and The New York Times.
