Biography

Charlotte is founder & CEO of Mafisa, increasing incomes in remote cattle-raising communities.

Charlotte has had a long career in research, program design and evaluation for development / research organizations, including Overseas Development Institute, Institute for Development Studies and UNICEF, focused on Zambia and extending to other African countries. She has played key roles in substantial public initiatives, notably as a leader in the inception of social protection / cash transfers in Zambia. She wrote the global report on inequality (forming SDG10) for the Secretary General’s High-level Panel on the Global Development Framework.

Charlotte has a BA from Oxford, and a PhD on entrenched poverty in remote areas. She has served on the Oxford University International Advisory Board, and as an Honorary Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, Chair of Zambia’s National Food and Nutrition Council, and a board member of the Zambia Wildlife Authority. She is a Zambian citizen.
