Biography
Christian Happi is a Distinguished Professor of Molecular Biology and Genomics and Director of the Institute of Genomics and Global Health at Redeemer’s University, Nigeria. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship and served as a Research Scientist at Harvard University, where he is now an Adjunct Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Prof. Happi led the sequencing of Africa’s first SARS-CoV-2 genome within 48 hours of Nigeria’s first case, advancing diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccine development. His work has earned him prestigious awards, including the Merle A. Sande Health Leadership Award (2011), HUGO Africa Prize (2019), Bailey K. Ashford Medal (2020), and Al-Sumait Prize (2021).
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Medical Specialties of Nigeria, and a member of the US National Academy of Medicine.
