Ed is the CEO and Board Chair of Meedan, a global technology non-profit he founded in 2006. He has dedicated his career to enhancing equity, accessibility, and credibility in digital spaces. Ed leads the development of open-source tools using human-in-the-loop methods for translating, verifying, and fact-checking digital content, focusing on improving information quality in closed messaging environments.
A 2024 Skoll Award for Social Innovation recipient, Ed serves on the PAI AI and Media Steering Committee and advises the Online Violence Alert and Response System project. His initiatives include #FactsFirstPH with Rappler, Confirma 2022 with Brazil's Superior Electoral Court, NSF Co-Insights, the COVID-19 Vaccine Media Hub, and WhatsApp’s fact-checking program.
Meedan's work has earned accolades like Knight News Challenge Awards and IFCN Collaborative Impact Awards. Its AI-driven journalist support platform received an National Science Foundation Convergence grant.
