Biography

My name is Erika Cruz Palacio Girón, I am a social worker with a master’s degree in Government and Public Policies. I am a former scholarship recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Program from the U.S. Embassy and a participant in the largest ethnic leadership network in Colombia, led by the Visibles Hands Corporation (Corporación Manos Visibles).
I am the founder and director of Purple Flower Corporation (Corporación Flor Púrpura), a non-profit organization with seven years of experience in strengthening capacities and creating opportunities for Black and Indigenous women in the city of Medellín, Colombia. Our work contributes to their individual and collective development by reducing racist, sexist, and class-based barriers for the transformation of the status quo and in favor of social justice.
Additionally, I am a public servant at the Secretariat for Women of the Medellín City Hall, where my mission is to promote the democratic right to participation for both rural
