Biography
Idris Brewster is a Brooklyn-born artist, creative technologist, and cultural strategist working at the intersection of art, technology, and collective memory. His practice explores how emerging technologies can animate historical archives, expand public engagement with history, and reshape how communities author their own narratives in shared space.
Idris is the Founder of Kinfolk Tech, a nonprofit building people-powered narrative infrastructure for Black and Brown communities. Through immersive archives, spatial storytelling, and community-governed digital tools, Kinfolk rethinks monument-making and historical preservation by centering the voices of those most impacted by history.
Across his artistic and civic work, Idris advances a vision of technology grounded in ethics, poetics, and cultural stewardship. His work has been recognized by Forbes 30U30, Sundance Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, The New Museum, Eyebeam, the United Nations, and the Museum of Modern Art.
