Jed Emerson is a Senior Fellow Generation Foundation, of Generation Investment Management (London/Washington, D.C.). From 2001 to 2004 he was Senior Fellow with the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and a Lecturer in Business at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. From 2000 to 2001, he served on the faculty of the Harvard Business School as the Bloomberg Senior Research Fellow in Philanthropy. Jed has twice been selected by The Nonprofit Times as one of its “50 Most Influential People in the Nonprofit Sector.” Jed has co-edited two books on Social Entrepreneurship. He has presented his work at such gatherings as the World Economic Forum and the Council on Foundations. Jed is co-founder of the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund and its predecessor, the Homeless Economic Development Fund, serving as director and president from 1989 to 2000. While with REDF, Jed developed and wrote extensively about the application of Social Return on Investment frameworks for valuing non-financial investor returns. Jed has been executive director of a homeless youth services program in San Francisco; and served on the national staff of the Presbyterian Church’s Office of Social Welfare and Justice Ministries. He holds master degrees in both social work and business administration.
