Kelechi Ohiri

Biography

Dr Kelechi Ohiri is a Public Health Physician and Director General of the National Health Insurance Authority, where he leads Nigeria’s efforts to expand financial access to healthcare and achieve UHC. Prior to this, he was the Chief Strategy Officer for GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance. He also led HSDF, an Africa-Focused Health Advisory Firm and was a Visiting Scientist at Harvard University.
He co-founded the Healthcare Leadership Academy (www.hlaafrica.org) and served as Senior Adviser to Ministers of Health and Finance. Prior to public service, he worked with McKinsey and Company and the World Bank Group. He has served on global expert committees and Boards. Dr. Ohiri earned a medical degree from the University of Lagos.

He also holds a Master of Public Health degree and a Master of Science degree in Health Policy and Management, both from Harvard University. He is a Desmond Tutu Fellow of the African Leadership Institute and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
