Biography

Laurie Benenson currently serves as ACT’s Chairman of the Board. A writer, editor and filmmaker living in Santa Monica, Ms. Benenson was the founder and editor-in-chief of Movieline Magazine and was a Hollywood correspondent for the New York Times. Among the movies she has produced or executive produced are Dirt! The Movie; The Hadza, Last of the First; Lost City of the Monkey God; Kiss the Ground, and Fantastic Fungi. She serves on the boards of TreePeople, The Broad Stage, and the Violence Policy Center. She and her husband Bill Benenson are members of the international arts preservation group Friends of Heritage Preservation, and support a number of environmental groups, including Natural Resources Defense Council, Rainforest Action Network, the Oceanic Society, and the Nature Conservancy.
