Biography

Lonnie is the CEO and co-founder of Healthy Learners. Lonnie first traveled to Zambia in 2011 as an undergraduate research assistant. While working alongside local medical workers, teachers, and students, he became aware of the magnitude of health issues negatively impacting the lives and education of school children. In 2013, Lonnie met Ignicious Bulongo, then the director of the Ng’ombe Health Centre, and together they developed a school health model focused on training teachers as community health workers. This work has evolved into Healthy Learners.
Lonnie was a Global Health Corps fellow with the Centre for Infectious Research in Zambia. Lonnie is a Truman Scholar, a Rainer Arnhold Fellow, and a Draper Richards Kaplan Social Entrepreneur. This past year, he was recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 List for Social Impact. Lonnie received a Master’s in International Health and Tropical Medicine from the University of Oxford.
