Biography

Maria Amalia Souza, Founder and Director of Global Philanthropy Strategies at Casa Socio-Environmental Fund • Fundo Casa Socioambiental, has over 40 years of experience designing systems based strategies that ensure philanthropic resources reach grassroots groups protecting major biodiversity and climate regulating biomes through social and environmental justice practices in the Global South. She’s a board member of AIDA-Interamerican Association of Environmental Defense, advisor to The Ocean Fnd, co-founder of the Rede Comuá and the Socio-Environmental Funds of the Global South • Alianza Socioambiental Fondos del Sur. Amalia is a graduate fellow of Donella Meadows Sustainability Program. In 2023, she was honored by the Global Landscapes Forum as one of “16 Women Restoring the Earth", and received the J.Blanton Belk Award for Outstanding Service to Humanity.
