Biography

As Programme Director for Collective Action at H&M Foundation, Maria is responsible for the strategic development, programme management, and fostering of collaborative partnerships aiming for a just transition in the decarbonisation of the textile industry. She initiated and leads the Saamuhika Shakti program, a pioneering collective impact initiative in Bengaluru focusing on inclusive circularity, where informal waste pickers are part of building circular solutions for the green transition.
Maria's mindset towards sustainable development is rooted in a holistic and inclusive approach. She believes that effective systems change requires the active participation of those with lived experiences of the issues being addressed. With 20 years of experience in the development sector, she has worked with organizations like the Swedish UN Association and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, demonstrating her expertise in international development and social innovation.
