Biography

Maureen Lawrence serves as General Counsel of the Skoll Foundation, where she oversees the legal affairs of the Foundation as it seeks to invest in, connect, and champion social entrepreneurs around the globe. As a member of the executive leadership team, Maureen oversees the Foundation’s legal, compliance, governance, and grants management functions. She also serves as Secretary to the Board.

Most recently, Maureen served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Regional Partnerships Program Officer at El Pomar Foundation. In these roles she oversaw the organization’s legal and governance functions and provided strategic program leadership to one of the Foundation’s statewide community engagement initiatives, Regional Partnerships. She also coordinated with a faculty of national tax law experts in support of El Pomar’s annual Rocky Mountain Tax Seminar for Private Foundations and has spoken at national tax-exempt organization conferences on topics ranging from governance to direct charitable activities.

Maureen earned her bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Marquette University. She went on to earn her law degree in Washington, DC from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where she was Editor-In-Chief of the Catholic University Law Review. Following a clerkship on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, she began her commercial litigation career at WilmerHale in Washington, DC before relocating to Philadelphia to practice at Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller, first as an associate and then shareholder.

Maureen currently lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband and daughter.
