Biography
At The Elders Secretariat, I lead the integration of Elders' cross-cutting commitments (multilateralism, human rights, gender and intergenerational dialogue) into their programme areas (conflict, climate, pandemics and nuclear weapons). As a human rights lawyer with nearly fifteen years of experience, I have led criminal justice reform initiatives and strategic litigation partnering with incredible international organisations across Africa, Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America. This work included putting people and communities at the centre of advocacy, humanising their stories, and deploying legal action to clarify their rights and rectify harm. In 2018, the Paris Bar Association awarded me La Médaille du Barreau in recognition of my work as a human rights defender. I am a member of the Maldivian Democracy Network, the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, OMCT’s Litigators’ Network and the Bar Association of the Maldives.
