Nayana is a passionate gender rights champion and has been in the nonprofit sector for last 26 years. She started her journey with some of the most marginalised communities in India, organising around realisation of human rights. This period made her aware about the lack of space for women's leadership in these spaces and how women's issues take a back seat even in the rights based movements. Since then she has concentrated on women's and girls' rights with focus on leadership building. Through more than a decades' work in philanthropic funds she has focused on issues such as socio-economic rights of women as well as early marriage and anemia among adolescents, in multiple countries of Asia and Africa. As the Director, Programme at Breakthrough, she led the programme in several states of North India directly and in partnership with state governments,and has been instrumental in development strategic plans and impletentation of the same. She is the current CEO of Breakthrough.
