Biography
Rodney Muhumuza has been a correspondent in East Africa for The Associated Press news agency since 2012. Based in Kampala, Uganda, his work is often produced at the intersection of politics and culture. His reporting for AP has included coverage of deadly labor unrest in southern Africa, Ebola in west Africa, armed rebellion in central Africa, and political shifts in east Africa. In 2021 he was part of a team of AP journalists who received the news cooperative's highest journalism honors for coverage of the devastating war in Ethiopia's Tigray region. His more recent work in his native Uganda has focused on the evolving impacts of oil development projects that have exposed thousands of people to exploitation and the loss of livelihoods. His journalism career started in 2005 at Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper, and his work over the years has appeared in publications ranging from The Kansas City Star newspaper to The Caravan magazine of India.
