Biography
Ronilso Pacheco is a theologian who graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) and holds a master's in Religion in Society from Union Theological Seminary/Columbia University. My expertise is in religion and politics, focusing on how religious fundamentalism and the far-right mobilize religion to promote policies contrary to progressive ideas of freedom, diversity, and plurality of social organization. I was an adjunct professor of Ethics and Politics at Manhattan University, in Riverdale, NYC, where I sought to work with students on a variety of topics and a broad reading of the political situation of the American reality. I was awarded the first class of fellows of the Ford Foundation Global Fellowship in 2020 and the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellowship from the National Democracy for Democracy in 2024, with research on Religion, Democracy, and Civic Space.
