Biography

Prof Ruth Oniang'o (Food Science and Nutrition), is a researcher, rural development specialist, African Food Prize Laureate (2017), IUFoST Fellow, IAFoST past president, IUNS Fellow, IFT and IFAMA Awardee. She has been honored by Kenya government, for her work with smallholder farmers, mostly women. She has helped in food and nutrition policy formulation for Kenya and championed Zero Hunger actions locally and globally. She supports the Right to Food in vulnerable communities. Building leadership among the youth in primary school (4K clubs) is something she is passionate about. Ruth founded Rural Outreach Africa (ROA) in the early 1990s and remains active as a clear and profound voice in research for development as an international consultant and speaker. During HIV and COVID pandemics, she advocated for nutrition as key to management of infections. In Parliament in Kenya (2003-2007) and Shadow Minister for Education, Science and Technology. "Africa can feed herself", she maintains.
