Biography
Safiya is the Co-Founder and Chief Impact Officer at Karya, where she leads research and various social mobility interventions. She is a current Rainer Arnhold Mulago Fellow ‘24.
Safiya is a global citizen with a diverse background in humanitarian work and research. With a childhood spent in post-conflict regions, she developed a deep passion for addressing large-scale livelihoods change through participatory solutions. Safiya has a bachelor’s in Anthropology from Sarah Lawrence College, where she continued her community involvement and interned with the UN. After graduation, she co-founded two companies in India before transitioning back to research and joining 3ie. Safiya furthered her research career with an MSc in Evaluation and Applied Research from Claremont Graduate University, during which she worked as an independent evaluation consultant for various international organizations. Later, she joined STiR Education where she led research and evaluation.
