Shaffa Hameed

Head of ProgramsThe Missing Billion Initiative

Biography

I am the Head of Programs at the Missing Billion Initiative, a time-bound catalyst dedicated to transforming healthcare systems to be truly inclusive for people with disabilities. As an academic researcher and lecturer by training, I am driven by a commitment to creating impact that is firmly rooted in evidence.

With nearly two decades of experience as a researcher, implementer, and trainer, I have worked at the intersection of research, policy, and practice to drive systemic change. Previously, I was an Assistant Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where my research and teaching focused on the lived experiences of people with disabilities.

Beyond Disability, I am passionate about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for young people—the focus of my PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (2013). My work continues to bridge evidence and real-world impact, championing equity and inclusion in global health.
