Biography

Shamil Idriss is CEO of Search for Common Ground (Search), an international non-profit committed to transforming the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches toward cooperative solutions. With 850+ staff working in 35 countries, Search is the largest non-governmental peacebuilding organization and was nominated by the Quakers for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize.

At a time when every region of the world is experiencing alarming levels of polarization, Search is shifting focus from strictly driving results where they work, to supporting advocates, activists, philanthropists and leaders to integrate into their own approaches the principles and tools that have proven effective in driving results and reducing tensions even in the most polarized contexts.

To this end, Search has recently partnered with the Ford Foundation, the Obama Foundation, the Office of the UN Undersecretary for Humanitarian Affairs, Google, Meta, the London School of Economics, and others.
