Steve Rocliffe

Head of the Frontline Community FundBlue Ventures

Biography

Steve is a bone fide salty sea dog, but one that’s managed to learn a few tricks along the way: marine biology, science communication, authorship & entrepreneurship. Born and raised in southwest England, Steve spent his childhood exploring wild seas, craggy coves and colourful crustaceans.

After a long spell working as a data nerd in media and finance, Steve returned to his first love, earning a PhD in community-based marine conservation at the University of York and going on to develop a long career at the interface between people and the sea.

These days he gets to combine all his skills together at Blue Ventures, a world-leader in community-driven marine conservation and fisheries management. As head of the Frontline Community Fund, he’s working to channel funding directly to where it matters most: communities on the frontlines of the ocean emergency.

A visiting researcher at the University of Exeter, Steve has also consulted internationally for numerous organisations
