Biography

Teacher, filmmaker and curator. She holds a Master's degree in Social Communication from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and is a PhD candidate. Since 2023, she is the President of APAN - Association of Black Audiovisual Professionals -, member of FICINE - Itinerant Forum of Black Cinema, and member of the Higher Cinema Council/ Ministry of Culture of Brazil. Artistic Director of FIANb, and juror at FESPACO (2023, 2025). She directed the doc My Imaginary Africa ​​(2024) and is co-author of Mulheres Comunicam: Mediações, Sociedade e Feminismos (Letramento, 2016), Un-Mapping the Global South (Routledge, 2024), among others. At UFMG, she was part of the research group CORAGEM - Communication, Race and Gender. As university professor since 2002, she has coordinated undergraduate and postgraduate programs. From 2009 to 2014, she worked at the Center for Human Rights and LGBT Citizenship - NUH/UFMG. And in the Ânima Education, she coordinated national D&I projects.
